Change Your Thinking and Change Your Life.
Many of our emotional issues got a foothold in childhood. And, much of what I have been challenged with in my adult life, began at about the age I was in the picture on the left. How does a young boy get from there to experiencing decades of addiction? That's a question I've pondered many times since I changed my consciousness and thought life throughout my addiction recovery. This I know. It is a gradual but predictable process. I firmly believe Albert Einstein's quote, "We cannot solve problems using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them."
I had to change my thinking before
I was able to change my behavior.
I had to change my thinking before I was able to change my behavior. There are deep rooted core issues that control our thinking, and hence, our activity. These deep rooted issues and events have emotional energy attached to them. Because of the way we interpreted those events with our young, inexperienced minds, we may still, in adulthood, be living out of the meaning we gave them then as they bubble to the top in our daily lives today.
You may feel uncomfortable and not know why.
The events still seem real to that part of us that is in protection mode and senses danger. Something will come into our life that resembles the original event and fear or anxiety sets in. We may feel uncomfortable and not know why. We may feel a need to avoid or escape the feelings. As a result, we resort to a variety of activities or substances to avoid these uncomfortable emotions. We most likely will not be in touch with what is driving our negative thoughts and behavior.. This is where EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) comes in.
